PM Shehbaz Sharif Says Loans Are Not the Solution to Climate Change

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that loans alone cannot address the challenges posed by climate change. Speaking at the Climate Summit on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, he highlighted Pakistan’s proactive measures to combat environmental challenges.

PM Shehbaz stated that Pakistan is taking practical steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promoting alternative and green energy, and prioritizing tree plantation campaigns for environmental protection.

He noted that Pakistan is among the countries most severely affected by climate change, citing the 2022 floods that caused losses exceeding \$3 billion.

While reaffirming Pakistan’s willingness to contribute to global efforts against the environmental crisis, the Prime Minister urged the international community to fulfill its commitments, stressing that “loans, loans, and more loans are not the solution.”
