Asia Cup 2025: Pakistan’s Top Wickets, Runs, and Sixes Come from Surprising Names

LAHORE: Pakistan has advanced to the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 after victories against Oman and the UAE, though a loss to India highlighted lingering concerns about the team’s overall performance. Despite progressing, captain Babar Azam, former cricketers, and fans have all expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s mixed and surprising displays.

The most unusual aspect of Pakistan’s campaign so far has been opener Saim Ayub’s role. While he failed to score a single run across three matches, he has emerged as Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker with six wickets, ranking third overall in the tournament.

On the other hand, star pacer Shaheen Afridi has made headlines not for his bowling but for his batting, as he leads Pakistan in six-hitting. Afridi has smashed six sixes in three matches, scoring 64 runs in total — second only to Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai, who has hit eight sixes.

Among the batters, Fakhar Zaman tops Pakistan’s run chart with 90 runs, followed by Sahibzada Farhan with 74 runs.

As Pakistan enters the Super Four stage, the team’s unusual statistics — an opener excelling as a bowler and a frontline pacer leading in sixes — continue to spark debate among fans and analysts alike.
