Floods Disrupt M-5 Motorway Near Jalalpur Pirwala; Rescue Operations Continue in Muzaffargarh

Multan:Floodwaters have severely damaged the M-5 Motorway near Jalalpur Pirwala, affecting five points and forcing closure of the route from Multan to Jhangra Interchange. According to a Motorway spokesperson, traffic will remain suspended until the water level recedes.

Authorities also warned that flooding poses a risk to a 36-inch gas pipeline in Multan. However, a spokesperson for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) assured that gas supply is currently unaffected, as parallel pipelines are maintaining distribution.

In Muzaffargarh’s Alipur tehsil, the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Rescue teams are carrying out joint relief and evacuation operations. So far, nine deaths have been confirmed, while several people remain missing. Officials fear the death toll may rise as waters recede.

Meanwhile, water levels at the Empress Bridge on the Sutlej River have begun to fall, though a medium-level flood persists.
