PDMA Issues Alert for 11th Spell of Monsoon Rains in Punjab

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert for the 11th spell of monsoon rains, forecasting showers in the upper catchment areas of rivers from September 16 to 19.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, the rains may cause flooding in rivers and streams. Commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have been directed to remain on high alert.

DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that, in line with the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister, all relevant departments—including health, irrigation, communications and works, local government, and livestock—have been put on alert.

He urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures during bad weather, avoid gathering near rivers, and refrain from recreational activities in vulnerable areas. In case of storms, people should stay at safe locations and avoid unnecessary travel, he added.

For emergencies, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
