Selena Gomez Opens Up About Struggles with Weight and Mental Health

Karachi: International pop star and actress **Selena Gomez** has revealed that she has battled **weight issues throughout her life**, which have taken a toll on her **mental health**.
In a recent interview with foreign media, the 33-year-old singer admitted, *“I’ve had many issues with my weight in my life, and it’s something I’m very sensitive about.”*
Selena shared that her fluctuating weight has been largely due to **medical treatments**. She explained that during her treatment for various illnesses, **medications often caused rapid weight gain**, and once the treatment ended, she would begin to lose the weight again.
The singer confessed that **body-shaming deeply affected her**, especially because she had been dealing with the issue for years and felt emotionally vulnerable about it.
*“Whenever someone body-shamed me, it would really hurt, because I was already going through so much,”* she said.
Back in **2023**, during a **TikTok Live**, Selena revealed that she was diagnosed with **Lupus** in 2014 — an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues. She later underwent **chemotherapy** and a **kidney transplant**, both of which contributed to her weight fluctuations and led to further **online trolling and body-shaming**.
In **2022**, tired of the criticism, Gomez reminded her fans that she is **“not a model”** and affirmed that she is *“perfect just the way I am.”* She has consistently emphasized the importance of prioritizing **health over appearance**, saying,
*“My medications are important, and I believe they’re what keep me going.”*
Selena’s candidness continues to inspire fans globally, especially those struggling with **self-image**, **chronic illness**, or **mental health issues**.
