Fear the Day of Divine Accountability,’ Sindh High Court Remarks in Bank Loan Case

Karachi: During the hearing of a bank loan case, the Sindh High Court (SHC) observed, *“Fear the day when you will be held accountable by the Almighty.”*
The remarks came from a two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro while hearing a petition related to the sale of a mortgaged house obtained through a private bank loan.
The petitioner’s lawyer submitted that his client was willing to settle the matter with the bank. Justice Kalhoro remarked, *“Does the petitioner have no fear of God? The house on which a bank loan was taken was sold to another party. Here you may manage things through manipulation, but how will you face the court above? Fear the day when the Almighty will hold you accountable.”*
According to the bank’s counsel, the petitioner, Syed Kazim Raza, had obtained a loan of Rs. 20 million in 2019 against his house in FB Area, which was mortgaged to the bank. However, the petitioner sold the same house to a private individual without repaying the bank.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that if the court directed, his client was ready to pay the outstanding amount. The court, expressing displeasure, remarked, *“You already sold the house, and now you want the court to pass orders in your favor? Settle the matter with the bank—why bring it to court?”*
The SHC has directed both parties to present their arguments on October 29.
