Punjab on High Alert as Flood Puts Multan Under Severe Pressure

Multan:Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, **Irfan Ali Kathia**, has warned that **Multan has been under heavy flood pressure for the past 48 hours** and the next two days will be critical for the city.
Speaking on Geo News program *Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath*, Kathia said authorities had expected water at **Panjnad** to peak by **September 4**, and enter Sindh by **September 6**. However, due to the massive flooding in Punjab, water has not flowed downstream at the required pace, causing sustained pressure in Multan.
A flood wave of **540,000 cusecs from Trimmu** is expected to continue entering Multan’s limits for the next two days, significantly worsening the situation.
In anticipation of further rise, the Irrigation Department has decided to **breach Shershah embankment** to release pressure. Officials have already warned people residing near the embankment and adjoining areas to evacuate immediately. Announcements are being made in potentially affected localities.
Sources in the Irrigation Department said that floodplains along the **Chenab River** are already submerged, leaving no further capacity to contain the massive water flow, which forced the decision to create controlled breaches.
