Supreme Court of Pakistan to Resume Work as New Judicial Year Begins Tomorrow

Islamabad: With judicial vacations coming to an end, the Supreme Court of Pakistan will commence its new judicial year tomorrow, September 8. The apex court has also released its cause list and judges’ roster for the upcoming week.

A judicial conference will be held at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow to mark the start of the new year, where Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will deliver an address. At 10:30 a.m., the Chief Justice will inaugurate the Facilitation Center.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a five-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan will hear the super tax case. The bench is scheduled to take up 1,250 petitions related to the matter.

At 1:00 p.m., a full court meeting will be held on the administrative side, chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. The meeting will review the Supreme Court Bar Association’s proposals regarding the Supreme Court Rules 2025.

According to the weekly cause list, nine benches have been constituted at the principal seat. Bench One, led by Chief Justice Afridi along with Justices Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb and Shafi Siddiqui, will begin hearings on September 9.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will preside over Bench Two, which will hear cases on September 10 with Justices Munib Akhtar, Aqeel Abbasi, and Shakeel Ahmed also included. Other benches will be led by Justices Munib Akhtar (Bench Three), Ayesha Malik (Bench Four), Athar Minallah (Benches Five and Six), Shahid Waheed (Bench Seven), Hashim Kakar (Bench Eight), and Shakeel Ahmed with Justice Aamir Farooq (Bench Nine).

The new judicial year is set to begin with a heavy workload, including significant constitutional cases and administrative reforms.
