Field Marshal’s Term to End in 2027, Extension Question Arises Afterwards: Rana Sanaullah

Lahore: Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that the tenure of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will conclude in 2027, and only then will the question of an extension arise. He praised the Army Chief for giving the nation a moment of pride “in 78 years through a battle of truth.”

Speaking to the media at the Punjab Assembly, Rana Sanaullah noted that climate change had brought severe challenges worldwide. He highlighted that while the Sutlej and Ravi rivers were once dry, they now witnessed heavy inflows of water. He credited the government’s coordinated teamwork for minimizing human loss during the crisis, saying millions were safely evacuated due to timely action.

He further said attempts to incite civil war had been made on May 9, as well as on the 24th and 26th of later months, but emphasized that such attempts could not be tolerated under any circumstances as they threatened Pakistan’s integrity.

Referring to the evolution of military leadership tenures, he recalled: “At one time, the Army Chief’s tenure was four years, then it became three, and now it is five years.” He reiterated that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s tenure ends in 2027, and only afterward would the matter of extension come under consideration.
