50 People, Including Women and Children, Rescued from Floodwaters in Narowal

NAROWAL:At least 50 people, including women and children, trapped in floodwaters of the Ravi River were successfully rescued in Shakargarh’s Dajer Mian Jhanda area on Tuesday.
According to rescue officials, the victims had taken shelter on a wall near the riverbank as water currents surrounded them, with waves almost touching their refuge. They had appealed for urgent help as the situation worsened. MPA Ahmed Iqbal Lahri was also present at a nearby relief camp during the operation.
District Emergency Officer said that MPA Ahmed Iqbal and his companions were also rescued after being stranded. He added that the rescue operation faced challenges due to fallen trees, submerged roads, and heavy downpours, which delayed relief efforts.
Meanwhile, Sialkot recorded 355 mm of rain in the past 24 hours, submerging roads and turning them into streams. Several feet of water accumulated in low-lying areas. At the same time, the Dek Nullah is in extremely high flood, and a breach at Chohar has inundated multiple villages. Evacuation of residents from affected areas to safer locations is ongoing.
