India Alerts Pakistan About Possible Major Flood Under Indus Waters Treaty

Islamabad:India has formally alerted Pakistan about a potential major flood in the Tawi River under the framework of the Indus Waters Treaty, marking the first significant contact between the two countries since heightened tensions in May.

According to official sources, the Indian High Commission in Islamabad informed Pakistani authorities of the possibility of heavy flooding near the Jammu region. The communication was made on the morning of August 24 at 10:00 AM.

This advance notice, provided as part of the water-sharing and information exchange obligations under the Indus Waters Treaty, is seen as a significant development given the strained bilateral relations.

In response, the Government of Pakistan has issued an **official flood alert**, mobilizing relevant authorities to monitor the situation closely and take necessary precautionary measures to mitigate any potential damage.

Officials emphasized that such early warnings are critical for disaster preparedness and ensuring the safety of vulnerable communities along the riverbanks.
