Viral Video Claiming Judge Resigned Under Pressure Proven False

Islamabad: A video circulating on social media claiming that a judge resigned in court due to government pressure has turned out to be false.

The judge in the video, District and Sessions Judge Asghar Ibrahim, was actually delivering a farewell speech on the occasion of his retirement — not resigning under duress.

The misleading video was shared from the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Balochistan, falsely alleging that the judge resigned during the hearing of a government-related case due to undue pressure. The post also claimed that he saluted his chair and said, *“At least I don’t have this shamelessness in me,”* framing it as a symbolic blow to the judiciary.

However, senior journalist Muhammad Umair clarified the situation through his verified X account. He stated, *“Videos are circulating regarding District and Sessions Judge Sahiwal Asghar Ibrahim, suggesting he faced pressure and resigned. The truth is, he officially retired yesterday, and the video is from his retirement ceremony.”*

This clarification highlights how the video was taken out of context — seemingly to provoke public sentiment or question the integrity of the judicial system.

In today’s age of instant virality, this incident underscores the increasing importance of journalistic responsibility and the need to verify information before drawing conclusions or spreading narratives.
