Schools Closed for Two Days in Azad Kashmir Due to Heavy Rainfall and Flooding

MUZAFFARABAD:The government of **Azad Jammu and Kashmir** has announced the closure of all **educational institutions for two days** — **August 15 and 16** — due to **heavy rainfall, flooding**, and the threat of **landslides**.

According to the official notification, both **public and private schools** will remain **closed across the region** to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The decision comes in the wake of **severe weather conditions** in various parts of Azad Kashmir. On Wednesday, a **cloudburst in Nasirabad**, a tehsil of **Muzaffarabad**, triggered a **flash flood** that claimed the lives of **six members of the same family**.

In **Bagh**, swollen streams and rivers have caused significant disruption, while **Bhimber’s Samahni area** is facing **high-level flooding** in the local waterways.

Meanwhile, **Gilgit-Baltistan** is also reeling from torrential rains, landslides, and flooding, with **10 fatalities** reported so far and **widespread damage** to infrastructure and agriculture.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in mountainous and flood-prone areas.
