Balochistan Government Launches Development Projects in 40 Union Councils of Gwadar and Lasbela

Quetta:The Balochistan government’s Local Government Department, in collaboration with the Gwadar-Lasbela Livelihood Support Project (GLLSP), has launched developmental initiatives for 40 union councils in Gwadar and Lasbela districts.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Secretary Local Government Abdul Rauf Baloch emphasized that the department is actively working on rural development as per the directives of the provincial government. He highlighted that comprehensive plans are being prepared to uplift rural communities with the financial support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

“These projects reflect the government’s commitment to sustainable development through partnership, ensuring that the needs of local populations are met across all districts of Balochistan,” said Baloch.

Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs Dura Dashti, also present at the ceremony, noted the importance of policy-making at the departmental level, stating that coordinated planning among government and non-governmental organizations can open up new avenues for community welfare, especially for the youth.

Director Local Government Gul Muhammad Baloch briefed the participants on the Union Council Development Plans, stating that this is the first time government-level rural development initiatives are being designed specifically for local populations, aiming to improve coordination between institutions and create new opportunities for rural growth.

GLLSP Program Specialist Muhammad Asif Lehtari informed the audience that the Gwadar-Lasbela Livelihood Support Project is a six-year initiative funded by the Balochistan government and IFAD. The project is focused on improving the livelihoods of people in Gwadar and Lasbela by promoting rural development and enhancing the fisheries sector.
