Approval of 100 MW Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant Project in Gilgit-Baltistan

Islamabad: Just two days after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s announcement, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the 100 MW Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant project at various locations in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Following the ECNEC’s approval, the official work on the project will commence. During his recent visit to Gilgit, the Prime Minister had declared that the ECNEC would soon approve the 100 MW power plants for Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) had already given the initial approval for the project, which will benefit several districts, including Astor, Darel, Tangir, Diamer, Ghanchi, Gilgit, Hunza, Ashkoman, Nagar, Rondo, Skardu, and Shigar.
In the first phase, 18.958 MW of electricity will be provided to Skardu, while in the second phase, Hunza, Gilgit, and Diamer districts will receive 6.005 MW, 28.013 MW, and 13.126 MW respectively. The third phase will supply 16.096 MW of electricity to the remaining districts, with an additional 18.162 MW of off-grid electricity provided to hospitals and government offices.
The project is set to be completed within three years at a total cost of 24,957 million rupees.
