Mobile Internet Service Disruption in Balochistan Creates Widespread Hardship for Students, Freelancers, and Businesses

Balochistan, Pakistan:Mobile internet data services have been suspended across Balochistan for the past three days, leading to severe disruptions for students, freelancers, and everyday citizens. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed that the suspension was due to security concerns, particularly in the provincial capital, Quetta, and several other districts in the region.

According to PTA officials, mobile internet services have been temporarily shut down in areas including Kohlu, Chaman, Qilla Abdullah, Pishin, Loralai, Ziarat, Qilla Saifullah, Nushki, and Hernai. The move is aimed at preventing potential unrest or untoward incidents amid ongoing security concerns.

The suspension has been met with significant backlash from the public, especially students who are unable to attend their online classes, and freelancers, e-commerce operators, and other online business owners who have seen their livelihoods come to a standstill. Online educators and educational institutions, which had previously shifted to digital platforms for continuity, are also facing challenges.

Business owners have reported complete disruption of operations, with transactions, orders, and customer communications being cut off.

Citizens have strongly urged the government and relevant authorities to explore alternative measures if security risks persist, but have emphasized that shutting down internet services, a fundamental utility, is not a viable long-term solution.

As the situation unfolds, there are growing calls for the government to provide temporary alternatives to mitigate the impact of the shutdown on daily life and economic activities.
