Khawaja Asif Mocks Solitary Confinement Claims: “Give Imran Khan a Cellmate If He’s Lonely”

Lahore: A video of Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has gone viral on social media, in which he responds to allegations that former Prime Minister Imran Khan is being kept in solitary confinement. Asif sarcastically remarked, “What is solitary confinement? Give him a companion to stay with in his cell.”
Speaking to media, Khawaja Asif said that Imran Khan’s frustration is growing with each passing day. “The kind of language he uses is unprecedented, and the way he treated his political opponents during his tenure is a dark chapter in our history,” he added.
Referring to his own imprisonment, Asif stated, “I also spent six months in jail, and I was alone too. In jail, one is essentially isolated. You have an orderly (mashaqati) with you during the day. You’re unlocked at Fajr (dawn) and locked up again at Maghrib (sunset). High-profile prisoners are usually kept from interacting with regular inmates.”
He added that he was held in a 6×4 foot cell at Attock Fort and emphasized that true solitary confinement is much harsher than what Imran Khan is currently experiencing. “He’s already getting all the facilities. Let him himself suggest what treatment should be given for his so-called solitary confinement,” Asif concluded.
