Indian Man Killed by Sister and Brother-in-Law Over HIV Diagnosis in Suspected ‘Honor Killing

Chitradurga, Karnataka:In a shocking case of alleged “honor killing,” a young man named Mallikarjun was strangled to death by his sister and brother-in-law after it was revealed he was HIV positive.

According to police reports, Mallikarjun was employed at a private company in Bengaluru. He was returning to his village with friends when their vehicle collided with a truck. During his treatment at the hospital, medical tests revealed he was HIV positive.

His sister, Nisha, and her husband, Manjunath, took responsibility for accompanying him back to Bengaluru for further treatment. However, en route, they allegedly killed him by strangling him with a blanket. They later claimed he died suddenly on the way.

Their story aroused suspicion from Mallikarjun’s father, who informed the authorities. Upon investigation, the truth emerged. Police have arrested Nisha, while Manjunath remains at large.

Officials say the couple feared Mallikarjun’s HIV status would bring shame and social stigma to the family, prompting them to commit the murder.

The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for increased awareness around HIV and the harmful effects of societal stigma linked to the disease.
