Khyber TV Anchor Shabana Liaqat Missing with Family in Diamer Flash Floods

DIAMER / GILGIT-BALTISTAN:A tragic incident unfolded in Gilgit-Baltistan as **Khyber TV anchor Shabana Liaqat**, along with her **husband and four children**, has gone missing amid the devastating flash floods in the **Diamer district**, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

According to **Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq**, reports have emerged of another family going missing in the region. The missing individuals have been identified as **Liaqat, his wife Shabana**, and their **four children**. The family was reportedly on a recreational trip when disaster struck.

Spokesperson Faraq stated that the **TV channel contacted local authorities**, reporting the disappearance of their anchor after losing contact with her. A handbag believed to belong to Shabana was recovered by a local volunteer in **Thak Babusar**, containing her **national identity card**.

Efforts to locate the missing tourists are currently underway. The **search and rescue operation** includes police, local administration, the **Disaster Management Authority**, **Pakistan Army**, and **GB Scouts**. Volunteers are also using **sniffer dogs and drones** to aid in the operation.

**Eyewitnesses** claim that between **10 to 15 tourists** were swept away by sudden flash floods along the **Babusar Pass route**, a scenic but dangerous mountainous highway.

Khyber TV, in an official statement, confirmed that **Shabana Liaqat**, an anchorperson at their **Islamabad center**, had traveled to **Gilgit-Baltistan** for vacation with her family on **July 1**. On their return journey from **Skardu**, all contact with them was lost near **Babusar Top**, and both of their phones have since remained switched off.

In a related tragic incident, three members of a family from **Lodhran**, who were also in the region for a picnic, lost their lives in the flood. The deceased were identified as **Dr. Mashaal Fatima**, her **3-year-old son Abdul Hadi**, and her **brother-in-law Fahad Islam**.

Authorities continue the **intensive search operation**, while the nation prays for the safe recovery of the missing individuals.
