PTI Workers Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail for November 26 Protest under Public Order Act

Islamabad: In a landmark decision, the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad has handed down the first-ever sentence under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act. Twelve Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers have been sentenced to six months in prison each for their involvement in the November 26 protest. One of the accused was acquitted.
The cases were registered against the workers at Tarnol and Ramna police stations. The sentences were delivered by Judicial Magistrates Mureed Abbas and Ahmad Shehzad, following a trial that concluded with the verdict.
This marks the first legal consequence for protests held under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act, which has been increasingly invoked for protests and public gatherings.
