Suleman Akram Raja: Shah Mehmood Qureshi Cannot Lead PTI, Party Founder Remains the Leader

Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General, Barrister Suleman Akram Raja, has firmly stated that Shah Mehmood Qureshi cannot lead the party, asserting that the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, remains its leader. Raja’s comments came in response to speculation that Qureshi might take over leadership duties amidst ongoing legal challenges.

Speaking outside Adiala Jail, where PTI leaders are being held, Raja clarified that Qureshi is currently facing multiple legal battles, with 8 to 9 cases pending against him. “It is a misconception that Shah Mehmood Qureshi will lead the party,” he remarked. “The leader of PTI is the founder of the party, not Shah Mehmood Qureshi.”

Raja also criticized the ongoing legal proceedings, including the hearing of the Toshakhana case, calling for an open trial as per constitutional requirements. “The trial is happening behind closed doors, which is a clear violation of the law and the constitution,” he said. “The trial should be annulled as it disregards the fundamental rights of the accused.”

Regarding Qureshi’s status, Raja emphasized that while Qureshi’s position within the party remains intact, it is the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, who holds the leadership role.
