Trump Orders U.S. Tech Companies to Halt Hiring Foreign Workers, Especially from India

Washington: In a major policy shift, U.S. President Donald Trump has directed leading technology companies, including Google and Microsoft, to stop hiring employees from overseas, particularly India, and to focus exclusively on hiring American citizens. This directive was issued during a high-level AI summit held in Washington, where Trump delivered a stern message to Silicon Valley companies.
Trump criticized the global outlook of these companies, accusing them of exploiting American freedoms while setting up factories in China, recruiting employees from India, and hiding profits in Ireland. “This will no longer be tolerated. We need loyalty and patriotism from American tech companies,” Trump emphasized.
The President also signed three major executive orders aimed at boosting the U.S.’s position in the global artificial intelligence (AI) race. These orders seek to reduce regulations, accelerate the construction of data centers, and make the U.S. the leader in AI technology worldwide. Under this policy, any company receiving government funding must ensure their AI systems are “neutral,” with a complete ban on AI technologies that display “woke” or politically biased tendencies.
Moreover, Trump called for the promotion of fully American-made AI technologies, urging U.S. companies to dominate the global AI market by selling their innovations worldwide.
Trump’s comments signal a potentially difficult future for Indian IT professionals and outsourcing companies. U.S. tech jobs may become increasingly inaccessible to foreign workers, which could disrupt the global outsourcing model. Additionally, the President raised concerns about AI, referring to it as a “genius technology,” and suggested it should be framed in a way that highlights American innovation to the world.
This move could reshape the future of the tech industry, both in the U.S. and internationally, as companies are forced to adjust to new regulations and nationalistic hiring policies.
