Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s Acquittal Not Surprising, Says Hamid Mir

Lahore: Senior journalist and political analyst Hamid Mir has reacted to the acquittal of PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in one of the May 9 cases, calling it unsurprising and labeling the case against him as baseless.
Speaking on a television program, Mir said, “I had said earlier as well — Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s acquittal was expected. There was never a strong case against him. In fact, it seems whoever filed the case must have been a foolish person. He was in Karachi on May 9, attending to his ailing wife. How could he have been involved in the riots?”
While commenting on the implications of the acquittal, Mir clarified, “This doesn’t mean Qureshi will walk free and immediately take control of PTI’s affairs. He still faces several other cases, including a serious one related to the violation of the Official Secrets Act and allegations of treason.”
Hamid Mir also pointed out the ongoing political involvement of Qureshi’s family. “His son Zain Qureshi is an MNA, and his daughter is also quite active in politics. Given the collective stance of the family, I don’t believe Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s legal troubles are over. In fact, I think PTI’s challenges are likely to grow further in the near future.”
