Quetta International Airport’s New Runway Wins Prestigious International Engineering Award

Islamabad: The newly constructed runway at Quetta International Airport has been awarded the prestigious Asia Pacific Engineering Excellence Award. The award, presented by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), recognizes outstanding performance and technical expertise in the field of engineering.
The award ceremony was held in Islamabad, where officials highlighted that the runway, built at a cost of approximately 5 billion rupees, was completed without any disruption to airport operations. This newly constructed runway is now considered one of the longest and strongest hard-runways in Pakistan and the entire region.
The global recognition was given to the Pakistan Airports Authority and the consultancy teams behind the project, acknowledging their meticulous planning, engineering expertise, and adherence to high safety standards.
Notably, the first aircraft to land on the new runway was Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-3250, which arrived from Islamabad on May 31, 2023.
