“Grok’s Answer on Sugar Mills Ownership by Political Families Sparks Social Media Outrage”

Lahore: The soaring sugar prices in Pakistan have left citizens frustrated, triggering a fresh debate on social media regarding the ownership of sugar mills by various political families in the country. This debate took an unexpected turn when senior journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan asked the AI system, Grok, to reveal the number of sugar mills owned by political figures in Pakistan.
The inquiry was made on X (formerly Twitter) where Iqrar asked Grok, “Can you tell us which political families in Pakistan own sugar mills and how many? This might give us an idea of who benefits from the recurring sugar scandals.”
Grok’s response caught the attention of the public, listing the political families and the number of mills they own:
Sharif Family (PML-N): 9 sugar mills, including Ramzan, Ittefaq, and Chanara, among others.
Zardari Family (PPP): 5 sugar mills, including Ansari, Mirza, and Panjaryo.
Jehangir Tareen: 3 sugar mills.
Abbas Sarfraz: 5 sugar mills.
Chaudhry Family: 4 sugar mills.
Zaka Ashraf: 1 sugar mill.
Hamariyan Akhtar: 2 sugar mills.
This revelation has ignited a heated debate online, with many questioning the role of political dynasties in the nation’s sugar industry and its connection to the ongoing price hikes.
Iqrar ul Hassan Syed (@iqrarulhassan) July 16, 2025
