Sharjeel Memon Slams Critics, Reviews Yellow Line BRT Progress in Karachi

Karachi: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon criticized opposition parties during a visit to the under-construction Jam Sadiq Bridge, stating that “those political parties who have nothing to offer, only indulge in criticism.”
While inspecting the ongoing development work on the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, the minister received a detailed briefing from transport officials. He emphasized that the Sindh government is actively working to improve urban transport infrastructure and accelerate the completion of BRT lines across Karachi.
Speaking to media, Memon said the Yellow Line project is progressing rapidly and is essential for the city. “The construction of the Jam Sadiq Bridge is underway, and BRT systems are a top priority for the transport department. These routes will soon operate using electric vehicles (EVs),” he said.
He also shared updates on other projects, noting that work on the Red Line BRT—previously delayed—is now picking up pace. Memon highlighted that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership is highly invested in these infrastructure initiatives. “Double-decker buses will be launched in August, and after the EV buses, we will also introduce EV taxis next month,” he announced.
Memon further stated that the government aims to promote eco-friendly transportation. “Next month, free EV pink motorbikes will be distributed to women,” he added.
Addressing Karachi’s drainage issues during rainfall, he criticized power suppliers HESCO and K-Electric, saying their failure to provide uninterrupted electricity hindered water drainage efforts. “Despite multiple meetings, HESCO underperformed yesterday. Generators were used to pump out water in several areas, and drainage work is now nearly complete,” he reported.
The senior minister assured that all stakeholders in Karachi are united in their development efforts. “No major waterlogging occurred during the recent rainfall, and if K-Electric ensures consistent power supply, drainage can continue without disruption,” he concluded.
