Pakistani Actress Maha Hassan Opens Up About Childhood Sexual Harassment Experience: A Journey of Healing and Empowerment

LAHORE: In a recent interview, renowned Pakistani actress Maha Hassan recalled the painful experiences of childhood sexual harassment, shedding light on how these events left a lasting impact on her mental state, spirituality, and personal values.

The 29-year-old actress discussed not only the psychological effects but also her journey of spiritual peace through therapy, self-discovery, and prayer. Reflecting on her past, Maha revealed that at a young age, she faced inappropriate conversations and physical harassment, moments when she couldn’t fully comprehend the severity of what was happening to her.

She mentioned, “Even if you’re 18, you still don’t fully understand what’s crossing the line and what’s wrong.” Maha admitted that during those times, she often justified the harasser’s behavior, telling herself that perhaps the person was struggling with mental issues and needed help. However, as she revisits those moments now, she expresses regret over not speaking up at the time.

“I still regret that my silence may have led other girls to fall victim to this person,” she added, reflecting on the impact of her silence.

Following the traumatic experiences, Maha confessed that she went through severe spiritual turmoil. She began questioning her faith, religion, and values. Yet, through therapy and reconnecting with prayer, she managed to find solace and healing. “Now, prayer brings me peace. My faith is restored, and I am at peace with myself,” Maha shared.

When asked about harassment in the entertainment industry, Maha candidly acknowledged that sexual harassment and exploitation are common issues within the industry. She emphasized the need for effective protective measures and strict action against those involved, ensuring that no one else has to endure such traumatic experiences.

Maha Hassan started her acting career in 2017 with the drama Khuda Mera Bhi Hai. Her roles in hit dramas like Ishqiya and Nand in 2020 earned her widespread recognition. Subsequently, she became known for her appearances in popular series like Yoon Hi, Chaand Tarey, Jurm, and Tumhare Hassan Ke Naam. Her successful career also includes starring in web series such as Superheroes, Churails, and Faraar.
