Historic Revenue Surge for Pakistan Railways in Fiscal Year 2024-2025

Lahore: The fiscal year 2024-2025 has marked a historic increase in revenue for Pakistan Railways, with a record-breaking earnings of 93 billion rupees.
Pakistan Railways reported a total income of 93 billion rupees, with 47.5 billion rupees generated from passenger trains and 31.5 billion rupees from freight services. The military traffic contributed 1.5 billion rupees, while other coaching services added 3 billion rupees to the total revenue. Additionally, miscellaneous sources generated 9.5 billion rupees.
This is the highest revenue recorded in the 78-year history of Pakistan Railways, surpassing last year’s earnings of 88 billion rupees.
Passenger Sector Revenue
The Karachi Division led the revenue generation in the passenger sector, earning nearly 15 billion rupees during the fiscal year. Lahore followed in second place with over 11 billion rupees. The Headquarters and Multan divisions earned 5.25 billion and 5 billion rupees, respectively. The Sukkur division’s revenue stood at 4.8 billion rupees, while Rawalpindi generated 4.7 billion rupees. Peshawar earned over 1 billion rupees, and Quetta’s revenue amounted to 520 million rupees.
Freight Sector Revenue
In the freight sector, Karachi led with 28 billion rupees, while Multan earned 1 billion rupees. Lahore generated 830 million rupees, Peshawar earned 770 million rupees, Rawalpindi made 310 million rupees, Sukkur collected 280 million rupees, and Quetta earned 100 million rupees.
Minister of Railways’ Statement
Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi commended the railway administration for its outstanding performance despite limited resources. He also expressed optimism about increasing revenue from freight trains, aiming for a 70% income generation target next year. “I salute our workers who have worked tirelessly for the stability and progress of the institution,” he said.
