Balochistan Govt Responds to Mastung Terror Attack, Announces New Security Measures and Reforms

Quetta: Balochistan Government Spokesperson Shahid Rind addressed a press conference on the recent terrorist attack in Mastung, outlining the swift response by security forces and the government’s strategy moving forward.
He revealed that terrorists targeted the Tehsil Office in Mastung, but quick action by security forces resulted in the elimination of four attackers. Some militants, however, managed to escape. Rind noted that in the immediate aftermath, it appeared as if terrorists had gained ground, but the prompt and effective response of law enforcement reaffirmed the state’s authority.
Following the incident, the government thoroughly reviewed its security framework and implemented new measures to strengthen law and order across the province. A revised security plan has been issued to all law enforcement agencies, ensuring better preparedness and coordination.
Rind also highlighted key initiatives from the recent provincial budget, including the establishment of the District Coordination Committees (DCCs). These committees are designed to empower local administration and improve public service delivery. He clarified that no Deputy Commissioner has been appointed as a Project Director, addressing misinformation circulating in some quarters.
Each DCC will be provided with full resources and headed by the elected Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) from the respective constituency to address local issues more efficiently.
Commenting on a recent bank robbery in Mastung where Rs. 40 million was looted, Rind emphasized that although banks are protected by private security, the government has initiated steps to improve the safety of financial institutions. He assured that district administrations are also working proactively to ensure the security of laborers and ordinary citizens.
In response to criticism of the provincial budget, Shahid Rind defended it as a balanced and development-focused plan, with significant allocations for security and public welfare sectors.
The press conference underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, enhancing governance, and strengthening local systems in Balochistan.
