Shah Mehmood Qureshi Urges for Negotiations Again, Presents New Formula to PTI

Rawalpindi: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who is currently imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail, has once again emphasized the need for negotiations and presented a new political formula to his party.
In an informal conversation with journalists from Kot Lakhpat Jail, Shah Mehmood Qureshi advised the PTI to continue resistance while pursuing dialogue. He stated that the final decision on negotiations should be made by PTI’s founder, Imran Khan. He also stressed the importance of engaging in talks with the powerful circles but noted that politics is the domain of political parties.
Qureshi stated, “If the influential circles have made it clear, then we will focus our negotiations on political leaders. But before these negotiations, we need unrestricted access to Imran Khan so that we can inform him of our views and get his feedback.”
Drawing on his 42 years of experience in politics, Qureshi emphasized that while PTI is eager for dialogue, if no response is received, protest becomes the only remaining option. He added that the call for negotiations came after serving two years in jail.
Qureshi revealed that the consensus among the prisoners in Kot Lakhpat Jail is that negotiations should take place. However, he refrained from revealing which government figure should be engaged in talks, saying, “Timing is crucial in politics, and I will disclose the names at the right moment.”
He also mentioned that a person in jail has limited knowledge of what is happening on the ground and suggested that Barrister Gohar and Salman Akram Raja should meet with them to share the on-ground realities.
