India Using Pahalgam Incident to Suppress Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination: Pakistan’s UN Envoy

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, **Ambassador Asim Iftikhar**, has accused India of using the **Pahalgam incident** as a pretext to further suppress the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people for their **right to self-determination**.
While briefing the **UN Security Council**, Ambassador Iftikhar revealed that **over 2,000 Kashmiris** have been detained by Indian forces following the Pahalgam event. He stated that the real intent behind the arrests is to stifle the ongoing resistance against Indian occupation in **Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK)**.
He highlighted the grim discovery of **thousands of unmarked and unidentified graves** in recent years, exposing the systematic violence inflicted by Indian forces. Citing investigative reports, he said that Indian troops **abduct individuals, subject them to torture, and execute them extrajudicially**, burying them without due process or identification.
Ambassador Iftikhar emphasized the urgent need to **address the crisis of enforced disappearances**, calling for proactive measures in **conflict prevention and peaceful resolution**.
He reiterated Pakistan’s call for the international community, particularly the UN, to take immediate steps to uphold **human rights and international law** in Kashmir.
