Justice Mansoor Ali Shah Calls for Decision on 26th Constitutional Amendment Before Judicial Commission’s Action

Islamabad: Senior Supreme Court judge, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, raised an objection during a Judicial Commission meeting, urging that a decision on the 26th Constitutional Amendment should be made first. His position was supported by Justice Munib Akhtar and two members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Judicial Commission, along with the Law Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Express News, the Judicial Commission meeting, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, deliberated on the appointment of the new Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court. The Commission decided to appoint Justice S.M. Atiq Shah as the new Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court.
During the meeting, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah objected to proceeding with the discussion without addressing the 26th Constitutional Amendment first. Justice Munib Akhtar also supported Justice Mansoor’s view. Additionally, two PTI members on the Judicial Commission, as well as the Law Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expressed agreement with Justice Mansoor’s stance.
