Dispute Between KP Government and Governor Over Budget Session

Peshawar: A dispute has arisen between the government and Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the convening of the provincial budget session. The rift deepened when the summary for the budget session did not reach the assembly secretariat on Friday. In response, the government decided to submit a requisition to call the session, aiming to present the budget by 3 PM on the same day.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi stated that while the summary for the assembly session had been received, it was his responsibility to set the date for the session. He emphasized that it was not mandatory to call the session on the date proposed by the government. “I am not obligated to sign the summary today; the Constitution requires me to sign it within 14 days,” Kundi said.
He further clarified, “After fulfilling all constitutional and legal requirements, I will sign the summary. I will not be pressured into signing it today by any threats from the Chief Minister or anyone else.”
Governor Kundi also remarked that he would not be intimidated by any group threatening the state, and he would not bow to corruption in KP. He urged the Chief Minister to refrain from issuing threats.
