Congress Criticizes Modi Government’s Development Claims as “Pack of Lies

New Delhi:The reality of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promises of “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and “Sabka Vikas” (Development for All) has once again come under scrutiny. Professor M.V. Rajeev Gowda, Chairman of the All India Congress Committee’s Research Department, has labeled the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 2024 manifesto and the government’s promises of the past eleven years as a “pack of lies.”

In his research report titled “Once Again, the Jumla Government,” Gowda severely criticized the BJP’s track record, accusing the Modi administration of deceiving the public with false promises and hollow slogans. He emphasized that the past eleven years of “false development” have exposed the real truth of Modi’s governance.

Gowda took particular issue with the government’s claims about self-reliance in defense production, describing them as baseless. He pointed out that India still imports 40% of its defense requirements, and of the 55 defense projects under the “Mission Mode Defense Research and Development” initiative, 23 are severely delayed — a clear sign of government inefficiency.

On the economic front, Gowda argued that the Modi government has failed miserably, noting that India’s GDP growth rate had dropped to just 6.5% last year, the lowest since the COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted the growing disparity in wealth distribution, where the top 1% of the population holds 40% of the nation’s wealth, while half of India’s poor live on only 3% of the country’s wealth.

The report also shed light on the country’s persistent food insecurity. Despite schemes for free wheat distribution, the poverty-stricken continue to struggle with hunger, with one in three children suffering from malnutrition. Additionally, more than 32% of children are dealing with low weight, indicating a dangerous public health crisis.

The Modi government’s promise of establishing 700 tribal schools has also been questioned, with 300 of these schools remaining non-functional. Gowda sarcastically asked, “Is running schools now a rocket science?”

Furthermore, the unemployment rate in India has surpassed 15%, and despite Modi’s promise to create 2 crore jobs annually, millions of young people are still without employment. The report concludes that the “Viksit Bharat” dream has, in reality, become a graveyard for empty promises.

Gowda concluded by accusing the BJP’s developmental model of being based on advertisements, slogans, and media campaigns, while the ground reality is marked by hunger, unemployment, and deprivation. He urged the public to recognize the truth and not be deceived any longer.

This report is being viewed as a strong and well-reasoned charge sheet against the Modi government’s developmental narrative.
