Eid al-Adha Sees Surge in Demand for Sacrificial Tools, Sharp Rise in Prices

Karachi, June 5, 2025: With Eid al-Adha approaching, there has been a significant increase in demand for sacrificial tools, leading to heavy footfall at shops selling and sharpening knives, cleavers, and meat-preparation equipment.
According to Mohsin Ali, owner of a sacrificial tools shop at Al-Karam Square, citizens are buying new tools and getting old ones sharpened in preparation for animal sacrifice. He noted that cleavers, various types of knives, and special sharpening rods are essential tools, especially for professional butchers, and are often custom-made on order.
Prices of new household sacrificial tools have risen by 100 to 400 Pakistani rupees this year. Knives are being sold in the range of 400 to 2,500 rupees or more, while cleavers are priced between 800 and 3,000 rupees.
Most customers are opting to sharpen their existing tools. The sharpening fee per item ranges from 150 to 200 rupees. Some citizens have purchased meat preparation tools costing up to 3,000 rupees in anticipation of the Eid sacrifice, while many have already had their older tools sharpened ahead of the holiday.
