Quetta to Replace Rickshaws with Electric Cars Under Public-Private Partnership

Quetta – In a major move to modernize urban transport, the Balochistan government has decided to phase out rickshaws from central Quetta and replace them with electric cars. The project will be implemented soon under a public-private partnership model.
Speaking to a private TV channel, Secretary of Transport Hayat Kakar revealed that the district administration has declared major roads in the city center as no-parking zones. He added that rickshaws will be banned from entering Quetta’s main commercial hub, now being referred to as “Downtown.”
According to Kakar, the government plans to introduce electric vehicles in place of rickshaws to reduce congestion and improve air quality. Two private companies have already expressed interest in participating in the project.
The initiative is expected to set a precedent for eco-friendly urban mobility in other parts of the province as well.
