Upper Chitral: FC Soldier Marries Two Women Simultaneously with Their Consent in Rare Village Event

Upper Chitral:Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – May 29* — In an extraordinary and rare incident from the remote village of **Torkhow (Soreech)** in Upper Chitral, a **young Frontier Corps (FC) soldier** named **Sartaj Ahmad** married **two women at the same time**, with the **full consent of both brides**.
According to the **local police**, Sartaj first **eloped with a girl** of his choice to marry her. However, upon reaching home, he was stunned to find that **another girl** — also interested in marrying him — had already arrived there voluntarily.
Police reports revealed that Sartaj had **promised marriage to both women** and had been in contact with them simultaneously. The situation became tense when both insisted on going ahead with the marriage.
### Community Intervention and Religious Ruling
The matter was taken to **local elders and community leaders**, who initially attempted to convince one of the girls to back out. However, **both girls refused**, stating that Sartaj had given them his word and they were both ready for the marriage.
A **local religious scholar** was then called in. He **individually confirmed** the consent of both women. Once their willingness was confirmed, the scholar solemnized the **Nikah (marriage)** with each bride **separately**, setting the **dowry (Haqq Mehr) at Rs. 900,000** for each.

According to villagers, the atmosphere was tense before the ceremony but quickly turned joyous once the Nikah was complete. A large crowd gathered to **congratulate the groom and his two new wives**. A video later surfaced showing Sartaj standing between both brides, surrounded by friends and well-wishers.
In the video, one woman is heard jokingly saying:

### Parental Consent Still Pending
Though the **marriages were conducted with the free will of both women**, local sources say the **consent of their parents is still pending**. Discussions with the families are expected to follow.
