Sheikh Waqas Akram: May 28 Belongs to the Nation, Not Any One Political Party

Islamabad – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram emphasized in a press conference that May 28, the day Pakistan became a nuclear power, is a national day of pride and not the property of any one political party.
“This day is meant to honor all the scientists and contributors who made Pakistan a nuclear state,” he stated, paying tribute especially to Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan and the team of scientists who worked for decades toward the goal. “Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was forced to apologize on television. Our party’s founder was the only leader who condemned this. Dr. Khan is and will always be a national hero.”
Akram expressed strong criticism of the judicial system, particularly targeting the 26th Constitutional Amendment. “No press conference is complete without mentioning the 26th Amendment. Justice has vanished. The judicial process is crawling, and the 26th Amendment is the grave of the Constitution, a stark symbol of the judiciary’s helplessness.”
He accused the authorities of manipulating the judicial process, saying that appointments of judges are controversial, and PTI had to protest just to get hearings for their party founder’s cases. “We were promised by the Acting Chief Justice that the matter would be addressed, but that promise was not fulfilled. Members of Parliament have no respect and must suffer under the sun to seek justice.”
He reiterated PTI’s call for the release of its founder, saying, “Our leader is unjustly imprisoned. Should the entire opposition have to protest just to get his cases heard? The judiciary has become powerless.”
Speaking on national defense, Akram said, “Pakistan defeated a much stronger enemy. Modi is a lowly person, and our leader had warned repeatedly that he would act shamelessly again.”
Akram concluded with a call for national unity and resistance. “We are ready to sacrifice our wealth, lives, and children for this country. The government imposed through Form 47 must stop the brutality against political parties. Now, we can tell the outcome of a case just by seeing the bench. This system stands exposed. We will fight till the last ball. The world is watching – and we will not surrender.”
He strongly demanded the repeal of the 26th Amendment, stating, “It is harming the country. Everything is heading toward destruction.”
