PM Shehbaz Sharif Arrives in Baku Today for Key Bilateral Talks with Azerbaijani President

Baku, Azerbaijan:Prime Minister **Shehbaz Sharif** is scheduled to arrive in **Baku** this afternoon as part of his multi-nation diplomatic tour across **Türkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan** from **May 25 to 30, 2025**. He will be accompanied by a **high-level government delegation** and will receive a **ceremonial welcome** upon arrival in the Azerbaijani capital.
During his visit, Prime Minister Sharif will hold a **crucial meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev**, focusing on enhancing **bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and regional issues**. The Prime Minister is also expected to **extend special gratitude** to President Aliyev for **Azerbaijan’s support to Pakistan during past conflicts with India**, particularly in the context of regional peace and solidarity.
Prime Minister Sharif will spend the night in Baku before proceeding to **Tajikistan**, which marks the **final leg of his regional tour**.
The visit is being regarded as a significant step toward **strengthening diplomatic and economic ties**, as Pakistan seeks to deepen its engagement with **Central Asian and Caucasus countries**.
Earlier, PM Sharif **completed a two-day visit to Türkiye** and then visited **Tehran**, where he met with **Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei**. In the meeting, he **briefed the Iranian leadership on ongoing tensions with India** and expressed gratitude for Iran’s continued **support against Indian aggression** and its stance on **regional stability**.
Looking ahead, PM Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the **International Conference on Glaciers** in **Dushanbe, Tajikistan**, on **May 29–30, 2025**, where climate change, water security, and regional environmental cooperation will be central themes.
This diplomatic mission underscores Pakistan’s aim to **bolster regional alliances**, promote **economic diplomacy**, and engage in **collective dialogue** on critical global and regional matters.
