Miss England Quits Miss World Event in India Over Alleged Harassment in Hyderabad

Hyderabad:In a development that has stirred strong reactions in both the UK and India, **24-year-old Miss England 2024, Milla Magee**, has withdrawn from the Miss World competition after allegedly being harassed during her stay in Hyderabad, India.

According to Indian media reports, Magee arrived in Hyderabad on **May 7** for the international beauty pageant but left the country prematurely on **May 16**, citing mistreatment and discomfort during her stay.

In an interview with British tabloid *The Sun*, Magee detailed the harassment she faced and criticized the event’s conditions. She alleged that participants were forced to remain in full makeup and ball gowns throughout the day — even during breakfast.

The controversy deepened when Magee claimed that contestants were expected to mingle with **middle-aged male sponsors** as a gesture of gratitude for their financial support. “We were made to sit like show monkeys,” she said, expressing her distress at being treated more as a spectacle than a participant.

In response to the allegations, **K.T. Rama Rao**, Telangana Minister and Working President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), issued a statement condemning the reported harassment.

Posting on **social media platform X (formerly Twitter)**, Rao wrote:

> “Milla, you are a very strong woman and I am truly sorry you had to go through this in our state of Telangana. We have a strong culture of respecting women, and your experience does not reflect the true spirit of our state.”

He further added, “As a father to a daughter, I hope no woman or girl ever has to endure such experiences. I support a full investigation into the allegations made by Miss England.”

Meanwhile, the **Miss World Organization** has denied Magee’s claims, attributing her departure to a **“family emergency.”**

Magee’s exit has reignited long-standing criticisms of beauty pageants, especially regarding the treatment and expectations of female participants.

As a result of her withdrawal, **Charlotte Grant**, the runner-up in the Miss England pageant, will now represent England at the Miss World finals, which are set to be broadcast live globally on **May 31**.
