Traders Protest in Quetta Against No-Parking Zones on Main Roads

Quetta:Under the leadership of Abdul Rahim Kakar, President of the Central Anjuman-e-Tajiran Registered Balochistan, traders held a protest at Manan Chowk against the declaration of key roads, including Jinnah Road, as no-parking zones. The demonstration brought traffic in the city to a standstill, causing severe disruptions in the traffic system.
The protest, termed a token demonstration, saw participation from prominent trader representatives including Hazrat Ali Achakzai, Mir Yasin Mengal, Saadullah Achakzai, Raz Mohammad, Mohammad Yar, Zainuddin Kakar, Akbar Shah, Naseebullah Ahsan Agha, Shah Raza, Qari Ubaidullah Durrani, Haji Fasl Kakar, Saleh Noorzai, Malik Sajjad, and others.
Speaking to the protesters, Abdul Rahim Kakar and other leaders criticized the government for failing to address the growing concerns of traders and the general public. They condemned the decision to enforce no-parking restrictions before Eid, particularly on Jinnah Road, Kandhari Bazaar, Liaqat Bazaar, Prince Road, and the stretch from Manan Chowk to Press Road. They claimed this move has caused millions in losses and amounted to the economic murder of local businesses.
They emphasized that Eid season is the peak business period for Quetta’s traders. However, due to terrorism, lawlessness, and poor government policies, tourists and shoppers from other provinces have already stopped visiting the city. Now, with the no-parking zones and no alternative parking arrangements, even local shoppers are avoiding markets, leading to a further decline in business.
Despite contributing significantly to government revenues through taxes, traders say they are not provided with any facilities. They also criticized the rise in utility bills and taxes, which they say has worsened the economic plight of both traders and the public.
The protestors warned that if their demands are not met within two days, they will announce a more aggressive protest plan. They held the government and district administration fully responsible for any future escalation. The peaceful protest concluded with loud slogans in support of their demands.
