UN Secretary-General Expresses Deep Concern Over Escalating Pakistan-India Tensions

NEW YORK:United Nations Secretary-General **António Guterres** has expressed serious concern over the rising tensions between **Pakistan and India** following recent missile attacks by India on Pakistani territory.
In a statement issued by the **UN spokesperson**, the Secretary-General urged both countries to **exercise maximum restraint** and **avoid further escalation**. Guterres emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful dialogue and diplomacy rather than military confrontation.
“The Secretary-General is deeply concerned by the current situation between India and Pakistan and calls on both sides to de-escalate tensions and engage in constructive dialogue,” the statement said.
The remarks come in the wake of India’s missile strikes on **five locations** in Pakistan — including **Kotli, Ahmadpur Sharqia, Muzaffarabad, Bagh,** and **Muridke** — which reportedly targeted civilian populations and mosques. According to Pakistan’s **DG ISPR**, two civilians were martyred in Kotli, and Pakistani forces are actively engaged in retaliatory operations via **air and ground**.
Pakistan has condemned the attacks as a blatant violation of its sovereignty, while its armed forces have responded with targeted counter-strikes. The international community, including the **United States**, **China**, and now the **United Nations**, has urged both nations to step back from the brink and prevent the situation from turning into a broader conflict.
