Saudi Arabia and Qatar Announce Payment of World Bank Debt for Syria

RIYADH – Saudi Arabia and Qatar have announced their decision to pay off Syria’s outstanding debt to the World Bank.

In a joint statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), representatives from both countries informed that they would be clearing Syria’s remaining debt of approximately $15 million to the World Bank.

The joint statement further emphasized that this initiative would pave the way for the World Bank to resume humanitarian operations in Syria, which had been stalled for years.
