Faryal Talpur Hails Halt of Canal Projects as Victory for Sindh, Constitution, and National Unity

Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader **Faryal Talpur** has welcomed the federal government’s decision to halt work on new canal projects and to convene a **Council of Common Interests (CCI)** meeting on May 2, calling it a **victory for constitutional supremacy, national unity, and the people of Sindh.**

In a strong statement, Talpur said, *“Today is a day of triumph for Pakistan’s federal unity, constitutional rule, and the rights of farmers.”* She praised **Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s principled leadership** and the peaceful protests by the people of Sindh, which, she said, proved that *“when the cause is just and intentions are sincere, governments must listen to the voice of the people.”*

She also commended Prime Minister **Shehbaz Sharif’s** decision to pause canal construction and convene the CCI as a **wise and democratic move**. Talpur emphasized that this decision is a **positive step** towards strengthening democratic traditions, upholding provincial autonomy, and empowering constitutional institutions.

Faryal Talpur reiterated that **equitable and transparent distribution of resources** among all federal units is crucial for a strong national structure. *“We’ve always maintained that Sindh’s right to its water is non-negotiable, and today, our voice has been heard,”* she declared.

She also reaffirmed PPP’s longstanding stance on **interprovincial equality, fair water distribution**, and decisions made strictly within the constitutional framework. *“The PPP is the true representative of farmers, workers, women, and marginalized communities, and it will continue to defend the rights of the people through democratic and constitutional means,”* she said.

In conclusion, Talpur thanked all **political parties, civil society groups, and citizens** who stood by the PPP on this critical national issue.
