Shooting at Wedding Ceremony: 19-Year-Old Student Preparing for Exams Dies from Gunshot Wound

Karachi: A tragic incident occurred during a wedding celebration in the New Karachi area when a 19-year-old student, preparing for her first-year exams, was fatally shot due to celebratory gunfire.
The victim, identified as Laiba, was on the rooftop of her home studying for her practical exams when she was struck by a bullet fired during a wedding procession. The shooting took place late on a Wednesday night, while the wedding procession, headed towards Hyderabad, was passing by the neighborhood.
According to police reports, Laiba’s home was located just two houses away from the wedding of Ahmed Raza. Several people from the wedding party were reportedly firing into the air during the procession. Laiba, who was on her rooftop, was caught in the crossfire when a bullet struck her in the head. She collapsed on the roof, and her body remained there unnoticed for several hours.
The tragic discovery was made around 12:30 AM, when her family went to call her for dinner and found her lifeless body, covered in blood. Despite the best efforts at the hospital, doctors confirmed her death, stating that the bullet had entered her head from the front, causing fatal damage to her brain.
The police were informed, and the body was transferred to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for examination. It was confirmed that the young student had been dead for over four hours before being discovered.
The victim’s family requested media coverage to be stopped, and the police completed the formalities before handing the body back to her relatives for burial.
This incident has raised concerns about the dangers of celebratory gunfire, which continues to claim innocent lives, and the need for stricter regulations during wedding celebrations.
