Baloch Students Organization Condemns Illegal Detentions and Calls for Immediate Release of Arrested Students

Quetta:The spokesperson of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) issued a statement condemning the illegal arrests and false FIRs against political activists by state institutions, calling these actions a violation of fundamental human rights and a crackdown on freedom of speech. The organization demanded the immediate and safe release of the students arrested during protests at Sindh University and the cancellation of the unfounded FIRs.

The spokesperson explained that on March 4, Sindh University students organized a peaceful protest rally on the occasion of *Yaum-e-Jad-o-Juhad* (Day of Struggle) against the military’s encroachment on the Indus River’s water and the militarization of universities under the Green Pakistan Project, which aimed to build six canals forcefully. The protestors condemned the military’s actions, but university administration and police responded with brutal force, injuring dozens of students and arresting many political activists. Several students were also subjected to false FIRs.

The BSO spokesperson strongly condemned the oppressive actions of the state and demanded the immediate release of all arrested students. The statement also criticized Pakistan as an unnatural and militarized state, which, according to the spokesperson, cannot comprehend the natural social contradictions of international capitalist crises. The state has resorted to violence and aggression as a strategy to manage these contradictions, and is now facing existential crises, making it akin to a “sandcastle.”

The spokesperson further emphasized that in such circumstances, the unity, cooperation, and solidarity of oppressed nations, as well as the formation of common fronts, have become unavoidable. The BSO expressed its commitment to standing side by side with the Sindh Sargard Sabha and other progressive nationalist student organizations in their struggle against state aggression, the theft of Sindh’s water, and the militarization of universities.
