Islamabad:The 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit commenced today in Islamabad, featuring the participation of Prime Ministers from eight member countries, including host Pakistan.
Key attendees include Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of Pakistan, Prime Minister Li Qiang of China, Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko of Belarus, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov of Kazakhstan, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin of Russia, Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda of Tajikistan, and Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov of Uzbekistan.
Notable figures also joining the summit include Kyrgyzstan’s Cabinet Chairman Akylbek Japarov, Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Mongolia is participating as an observer, represented by its Prime Minister, while Turkmenistan is being represented by Deputy Chairman Rashid Meredov as a special guest.
Additional guests include SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, Executive Committee Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure Ruslan Mirzayev, Chairman of the SCO Business Council Atif Ikram Sheikh, and Chairman of the SCO Interbank Union Marat Yeliubayev.
The summit will address ongoing cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, environment, and socio-cultural relations, as well as reviewing the organization’s performance. Member states are expected to make important organizational decisions to enhance mutual cooperation and approve the organization’s budget.
