Failed Attack on Bannu Cantt: 16 Terrorists Killed, 5 Soldiers Martyred, Says ISPR
Bannu: Security forces foiled a cowardly terrorist attack in the Bannu Cantt area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing 16 attackers, while 5 brave soldiers laid down their lives for the motherland. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists attempted to breach the security of Bannu Cantt on March 4.
The statement revealed that the attackers tried to break the security barriers, but Pakistan’s vigilant and courageous security forces thwarted their plans through immediate and decisive action.
The terrorists rammed two bomb-laden vehicles into the protective walls, but the Pakistani soldiers displayed unmatched bravery and professional skill in neutralizing the attackers. As a result, 16 terrorists were killed, including 4 suicide bombers.
The ISPR further mentioned that, in the intense exchange of fire, 5 valiant soldiers sacrificed their lives for the nation. Due to the suicide bombings, part of the security wall collapsed, causing damage to nearby buildings.
Unfortunately, one mosque and a residential building were also destroyed, resulting in the martyrdom of 13 innocent civilians, while 32 others were wounded.
The ISPR also stated that investigations by intelligence agencies have confirmed that Afghan nationals were directly involved in the attack. Evidence indicates that the planning and supervision of the attack were conducted by the leaders of the terrorist group based in Afghanistan.
The spokesperson for the Pakistan Army emphasized that the interim Afghan government will fulfill its responsibilities and ensure that its territory is not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan. Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary actions in response to threats emanating from across its borders.
The statement concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to completely eradicating terrorism, with the sacrifices of brave soldiers and innocent civilians further strengthening the resolve to protect the homeland at any cost.
