Protest Against Delay in Appointments at SBK Women University Ends in Crackdown on Teachers and Students

Quetta: The selected candidates for appointments at SBK Women University, who have been waiting for their appointment letters for the past two years after passing the test, are now forced to protest due to government inefficiency and delay in the hiring process. However, instead of addressing their demands, government forces carried out a crackdown, arresting the protesters and subjecting them to physical violence at the Press Club, which is a shocking violation of teachers’ and human rights.

Press Clubs are institutions for the freedom of expression, where citizens come to highlight their issues. Unfortunately, it has become a regular occurrence for security forces to storm these clubs, violently assault individuals, and forcibly arrest them. This trend is deeply concerning and we strongly condemn it.

Balochistan is already facing one of the worst educational crises, with very few higher educational institutions. Those that exist are on the brink of collapse due to infrastructural and administrative issues. Educational facilities in these institutions are barely functional. On the other hand, many young people who have completed their education are troubled by the government’s lack of seriousness, as they are neither provided with jobs nor offered any meaningful programs to support their future.

The Balochistan government continues to make loud claims about educational development while simultaneously arresting and torturing students and teachers. Moreover, they have shut down libraries, raided bookstalls, and imposed bans on books. These actions clearly reflect the government’s anti-education policies.

Globally, teachers are respected and provided with modern facilities to help spread knowledge effectively. Unfortunately, in Balochistan, teachers are subjected to violence and arrests. We strongly condemn the crackdown, torture, and arrests of the selected candidates of SBK Women University. We stand in solidarity with all those raising their voices for educational rights in Balochistan.
