Pakistan and IMF to Begin Loan Program Review Talks Today

Islamabad: The review talks between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the loan program will commence today.

According to sources, the IMF delegation will arrive in Pakistan today, and the negotiations between Pakistan and the IMF will continue for two weeks. Nathan Porter will lead the IMF delegation, while Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will lead the Pakistani delegation during the policy-level negotiations.

Sources have revealed that the IMF delegation will first engage in technical-level talks. In the second phase, policy-level negotiations will take place between Pakistan and the IMF.

The IMF delegation will hold talks with officials from the Ministry of Finance, FBR, Power Division, and the State Bank of Pakistan. Pakistan will present a report on the implementation of the conditions for the $7 billion loan program. The country will also submit a report for the first half of the current fiscal year to the IMF delegation.

According to sources, the IMF delegation will be briefed on agricultural income tax, as well as taxes related to the property sector. Pakistan will also provide a report on its progress in bringing retailers into the tax net.
